Wellness

Exercise, diet, supplements, meditation, community – these all play a part in developing a lifestyle that supports mental wellness. Systematically implementing these in one’s life may provide relief and on-going support  for depression and anxiety without medication. In other cases, medication may still be necessary and appropriate, but these lifestyle changes can increase their potency and help offset the impact of potential side-effects.

On this page you'll find descriptions and links to nutritional supplements that many of my clients have found useful. Three things set this line of supplements apart from others on currently on the market. First, the delivery method. Almost all of these supplements come in a powder form which, when mixed with a specified amount of water, are easily absorbed into your body. Second, all of these supplements are backed by peer reviewed research.  If the research changes, the supplements are removed from the market and re-formulated to match current research. Third, the supplements are formulated without fillers and binders, and many are vegetarian.

OPC (Oligomeric proanthocyanidins) are bioflavonoids found in fruits, vegetables and certain tree barks that provide exceptional nutritional benefits to the human body. As a natural anti-inflammatory, it helps the body's own mechanism counteract the activity of stress hormones, increasing energy and decreasing stress. Because of it's powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it has been shown to be useful in the treatment of asthma and allergies as well. This is the supplement that introduced me to this line. Vegan, and awesome. This is the #1 supplement I recommend.

Vitamin B has been found to decrease stress and improve mood, increasing energy and helping the body maintain healthy levels of serotonin. Containing activated forms of Vitamin B to ensure optimal utilization by the body, this supplement contains no animal products and meets the needs for B vitamins in a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Calcium - the soother! The combination of Vitamin B with Calcium is known at the "stress cocktail" - a powerful yet completely natural antidote to generalized anxiety and mild panic attacks. At night, take the calcium and B with Magnesium and L-Tryptophan for a "sleep cocktail" that will help you relax and fall asleep without any hungover feeling in the morning. Vegetarian.

Vitamins and minerals help to support a healthy immune system, a healthy cardiovascular system, support strong bones, and help to promote mental clarity This vegetarian Multi-Vitamin ensures the body is getting all the fuel it needs with today’s fast-paced lifestyle.

Bliss Anti-Stress Formula promotes relaxation without drowsiness, helps stabilize your mood, and is ideal for any individual encountering consistently stressful days or an upcoming stressful event. One of the main ingredients in Bliss is L-Theanine, the major amino acid found in green tea, known for it's ability to relax without sedating. Vegetarian.

When we are faced with stress, our bodies go into "fight or flight" response and certain hormones are released by the adrenal gland, hormones that would give the body a burst of energy and strength. This response used to be beneficial to our ancestors, allowing their bodies to physically fight or run away when faced with danger. But in today’s society, this response acts much differently, taking place as a result of stressful days at the office or traffic jam on your way home. ACTS Adrenal, Cortisol, Thyroid & Stress Support Formula, specially formulated with Holy basil and Ashwagandha, works specifically to promote healthy adrenal gland function, cortisol levels and thyroid function to help control stress levels. Vegetarian.

L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that helps maintain healthy levels of serotonin in the brain which helps regulate mood. Isotonix L-Tryptophan provides maximum results by including niacin and Vitamin B6, members of the B vitamin family, which promote the normal absorption of L-tryptophan. By supplementing with L-tryptophan, healthy levels of serotonin in the brain will help enhance mood and support sleep. Vegetarian.

Recent research has shown that that fish oil may be beneficial in supporting cognitive function by helping the body manage stress and enhance mood.
